Are you looking for an easy and affordable way to strengthen your bones, hair, skin, and nails? In this post, you’ll learn how to easily add gelatin to your orange juice—a potent ally towards a healthier you.

Plus, discover all the benefits of this food ingredient and where to buy it.

But first, let’s talk about what exactly gelatin is.

What is gelatin?

According to S. Sultana (2019), “gelatin is a translucent, fragile, colorless, and flavorless raw ingredient […] derived from the partial hydrolysis of collagen. [It] is collected from the bones, skins, and hides of certain mammalian animals such as pigs and cows […]. [Moreover], gelatin is a rich source of animal protein.”

Due to its excellent nutritional properties, gelatin is used to produce a variety of food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic products—such as confectionaries, creams, lotions, face-masks, capsule shells, and dietary supplements (Sultana, 2019). In sum, gelatin is a versatile food ingredient.

Mix 1 tablespoon of gelatin powder into half a cup of orange juice. Stir the mixture gently until the gelatin is completely dissolved. If any clumps form, simply break them up with a spoon. Enjoy this drink daily or three times per week for optimal results.

Are there any other ways to consume gelatin powder?

Yes. You can mix unflavored gelatin powder into smoothies, coffee, tea, or plain water. Alternatively, gelatin can be found in a variety of desserts, like a traditional Jello, most gummy candy, and marshmallows. (Wikipedia)

Where gelatin powder is available?

You can buy it at grocery stores (in their baking aisle), health food stores, online stores, or specialty health food sites, pharmacies, bulk food stores, specialty cooking stores.

Remember to consider which type of gelatin powder you need (such as unflavored, flavored, kosher, etc.)

What are the benefits of gelatin?

Scientific studies have found that gelatin can improve skin elasticity, consistency, and stability (Nurwulandari, 2020). It is a supplement that can increase collagen synthesis—potentially helping to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries (Shaw, 2017). And in cases of protein malnutrition, gelatin has been proved to increase bone density (Koyama, 2001).

Overall, these findings reveal that consuming gelatin can have positive effects on skin, hair and bone health.

Are gelatin and collagen the same?

According F.A. de Wolf (2003), “collagen is the most abundant protein in the animal and human body […], while gelatin is derived from collagen, particularly type I collagen found in bone and skin.”

How has gelatin helped me improve my bone’s health

After I lost a tooth a few years ago, I considered getting a dental implant to replace it. However, the dentist concluded that I didn’t have enough bone density for this procedure. So, I talked to my doctor about this, and he recommended including gelatin into my daily diet.

Following this advice, I regularly drank gelatin-infused orange juice, while also maintaining a balanced diet. A year later, I tried again to get my dental implant. This time, the procedure was successfully completed. To this day, I drink my gelatin-infused orange juice to help strenghten my bones, hair, nails, and skin.

In summary

Gelatin is a simple yet powerful ingredient you can add to your daily routine for stronger bones, lustrous hair, and youthful skin. Whether you are a wellness enthusiast or a curious beginner, get ready to be enchanted by the transformative power of gelatin.
